The hospital presented a display of their Cancer Center in the lobby of the VRCFA that evening. Information from the American Cancer Society was available, and many of the Cancer Center and other SOMC staff were on hand to welcome everyone. Refreshments were served, and a drawing for a basket was held. The winner of the basket was Patty Scott of Portsmouth.
Talking about the new Cancer Center in Portsmouth, SOMC stated, “Our community needs top quality cancer care. We responded to that need with a state-of-the-art cancer center, the latest in cancer-fighting technology and procedures, experienced staff and board-certified doctors”. The facility provides the optimal environment for treatment. Soothing sounds from a waterfall, warm rays of sunlight from skylights, calm earth tones and a ceiling mural painted by internationally renowned artist, Robert Dafford can all be found in the SOMC Cancer Center. This is the first cancer facility in the region to achieve the prestigious ACR accreditation in radiation oncology, and also have also been granted the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (ACoS) approval with commendation in seven areas. This three-year accreditation is the highest level of recognition offered by the commission.
SOPAA would like to thank SOMC for their continued support in bringing our Broadways series to the area.
