Far, far away in a kingdom turned upside down, things get ugly when an unseemly ogre – not a handsome prince – shows up to rescue a feisty princess.
The action takes place on stage at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31 when Shawnee State University’s Vern Riffe Center for the Arts (VRCFA) and the Southern Ohio Performing Arts Association (SOPAA) present “Shrek The Musical.”
The play is based on the hilarious story of the world’s favorite ogre in William Steig’s book “Shrek” and the Oscar-winning Dreamworks animation film by the same name, produced by NETworks Presentations, LLC and directed by Stephen Sposito.
“Shrek The Musical” tells the story of a swamp-dwelling ogre who goes on a life-changing adventure to reclaim the deed to his land.
Joined by a wise-cracking donkey, this unlikely hero fights a fearsome dragon, rescues a feisty princess and learns that real friendship and true love aren’t only found in fairy tales.
Bring the whole family to enjoy “Shrek The Musical.” Tickets are $50 for lower tier and $48 for upper tier with discounts for seniors and students.
Tickets may be purchased at the McKinley Box Office in the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts at Shawnee State University from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, online at Ticketmaster.com or any Ticketmaster Outlet, or by calling 740-351-3600. Student and senior discounts are available.
“Shrek The Musical” is sponsored by the Southern Ohio Medical Center (SOMC) and SunCoke Energy with the support of the Ohio Arts Council.
