Volunteer Your Support
Community Representatives are people that help the Board of Trustees “get the word out” in their communities, by putting up posters, distributing brochures, contacting organizations for show presentations by the board, or anything they can do to promote the shows. With the help of these Community Representatives, the Board can make sure this large region is informed.
If you are interested in being a Community Representative in your area, please contact Joe Patti, Director VRCFA, 740-351-3621 or email at email@example.com.
The Ushers at the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts are all members of the Golden Bears. Delores Chrisman served as head usher until recently, when she turned the reigns over to Patsy Alcorn. The Ushers handle tickets, helping people find their seats, handing out programs and answering many questions from concert goers. They can be identified by their red blazers, white shirts and black shirt/pants. These volunteers love being a part of the activity at the VRCFA. Many have served since 1995.
The Golden Bear Program is sponsored by the Scioto County Commissioners and Shawnee State University. Any Scioto County resident who is 60 and older can be a member and do not have to be affiliated with the university. “We take trips, and bowl once a month” said Barbara Pratt, program coordinator. “We have dinners and meet on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at the natatorium for water aerobics, walking, weights, and working puzzles.” The Golden Bears use the facility at other times during the week on an individual basis.
Besides serving as ushers at the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts, these men and women also help with campus mailings, work with the Hike for Hospice, and support sporting events. “It’s an excellent way to stay involved with the university and to know what’s going on in the community. Currently, there are approximately 600 members. For more information on the Shawnee State University Golden Bears program or the sign-up process, call Barb Pratt at (740) 351-3095
The SOPAA Board of Trustees and staff at The Vern Riffe Center for the Arts would like to thank the Golden Bears for their many hours of service. We couldn’t do it without them!
